just remember to breathe...

The mad scramble at work has begun. ‘Tis the season for piles of work that need to be done yesterday. Meetings to be held for meetings to meet about meetings to discuss ways on being more efficient during our busy time. Because multiple meetings with the same people are so efficient.

I thought I was ready for the onslaught but I never seem to be really ready even though I know it’s coming.

I feel myself frayed at the edges and a little cranky. My bullshit tolerance has gone to “0.”

My only respite is that when I get home, I can sit outside and enjoy the early evening.

The birds flock to the damnboo getting ready to settle down for the night - their squawking and rustling starting at a pitch and then dying out all at the same time. As if a timer went off and it was powered down all at once.

The fireflies float from here to there near the edges of my property as if on invisible strings. I still try to have them light upon my fingers when they get close to me. Not to catch but to marvel at their cool uniqueness. They’re bugs and their butts light up. Fascinating.

The bats do their silhouette dance above me. I try to forget that they’re sonar-guided flying rodents and just appreciate the intricate beauty of their flight paths in the dying of the light.

The new addition of groundhogs keep my spirits light. Everywhere you look there’s movement on the ground. It’s like watching wild kittens run amuck in my own backyard. They are still cute and do funny things, so I look forward to their furry antics.

I sit outside until I can hear the buzz of mosquitoes edging ever closer to my skin. Apparently they think I’m tasty – especially around the knees.

Every day I try to appreciate the beauty around me. I try to be grateful for being able to recognize the beauty which is sometimes only shown when looking for it.

This is what keeps my marbles from busting free.
