A tight spot...

I didn’t realize how much I needed it.

Just a moment to myself to soak in the ocean breeze.

I felt gunked up inside and out. The bad permeated my skin and clung to my spirit. I needed a natural salt cleansing, if only for a moment. Blow that stink off of me.

After being pushed and pulled in too many directions, everybody claiming their right to my existence I finally had enough. You’d think it was a flattering position to be in, but it’s not. I don’t like being man-handled physically or emotionally. I was getting twitchy and bitchy and needed space.

We broke free. Headed down the highway – speed limit be damned. (I say that but in reality I don’t want a ticket so I behaved myself – but in my head I was RACING down the road.)

Like I’ve said many times before – I don’t care what the weather is – any day at the beach is a good one. This was a grey winter day. It was cold and windy, just on the verge of snow, but not there yet. If I were any other region in the world, I’d hate it, but the biting wind felt good on my over-heated skin. The sand was hard and unforgiving. It was just us and a few brave seagulls. It was wonderful.

I stood facing out towards the water with my eyes closed and my arms out – ready to embrace the smudging I so desperately needed.  I willed my senses to open up and release the tension and blockages. I welcomed the wind that skipped off the water and blew at me. I envisioned the wind laced with the sea salt blowing through me and pushing the blech out the back. The longer I stood there, the lighter I felt in mind, body, and spirit.

I could breathe again.

The smile now came easily. The tightness in my chest loosened .  The kink in my neck straightened. My clogged sinuses opened up.

And this all happened in the first 10 minutes of being there.

After that I knew I could handle the rest of the day. Even though what I ran from was still eagerly waiting for my return from the beach, I just knew it was going to be ok. I was going to be ok.

My new meditation for stressful situations:

Close eyes.

Breathe slowly.

Imagine the ocean gently washing up onto the beach in a soothing rhythm.

Imagine the salted air tickling over my neck and face to ruffle my hair.

Imagine the breeze carrying away the negativity.

Let it go.
