Tricks and Treats...

Maybe it's the little kid in me.

Maybe it's the grown-up in me reaching for the childhood magic, but Halloween is my favorite holiday. It always has been.

Now that it's All Saints Day, the mad excitement of pre-Halloween is over.

I can take a moment to breathe.

My favorite time of the year is Autumn.

When I was a child, Autumn meant nothing to me. My mother would lament about the changing of the seasons, but I had no reference. Summer was the bomb to me. I lived in an area where you had the green season and the brown season. Both of which sort of blended into each other seamlessly.

Halloween fell at the end of the brown season.

We never had to worry about having to wear jackets over our costumes. We never had to worry about rain.

We went out collecting with our pillow cases begging for treats.

As an adult, I now live in an area where we actually have 3 1/2 seasons (spring is getting shorter and shorter thankfully).

Each season is distinctly different from the other.

Autumn has become my favorite. Not only because Halloween is there but because of the changing of the season.

We turn our clocks back over this weekend which means I get an hour of sleep (another one of my most favorite things).

So for me, Autumn cannot be beat.

  1. Halloween
  2. crunchy leaves to kick around
  3. changing of the season
  4. it gets dark earlier
  5. time to cook
  6. warmish days and cold nights, which means
  7. fires in the fireplace
So enjoy the season. The next holidays will be breathing down our necks in no time, so enjoy it now.

Instead of taking time to smell the roses, take time to smell the earthy goodness of Autumn.
