In the air...

The snow arrived last night.

I wasn't aware we were to receive any, so when I peeked out the window I was surprised to find the world blanketed in white.

It was below freezing, so the snow was dry and light.

You could see it swirling around in the air as drafts lifted it up and gave it a spin.

Mother Nature showing us the dance moves if you were patient enough to watch the lesson.

I rushed to the coat closet to put my parka on so I could throw myself in the middle of the dance.

As the wind blew my hair around, the snow mixed in sticking to me.

The cold of the night made my cheeks rosy as I spun around looking up at the sky.

Small, light snow landing on my eyelashes and my tongue. Cold kisses on a quiet night.

(Yes, I still try to catch the flakes with my tongue - you should try it)

Inhaling through my nose, the air smelled clean. As if all the pollutants of the day had been replaced by space. As if I could describe what "space" might smell like.

It smells like nothing but clean. Ozone maybe?

I don't know.

All I can say is that I love the first real cold snow of the season.

It smells good and there's a bit of magic happening if you're open to seeing it.
